tab key closing document or jumping to another open doc

I am working in a word column document. When I press the tap key to go to another cell, it closes the document entirely. If another document is open, then when I press the tab key it toggles to the open document. If I press it again, it toggles back to the original doc.

I want to press the tab to get to the next cell in the word document.
 
Perhaps your Alt key is sticking?
