I've been having this problem w/ XP every since I got it 2 yrs ago..

Missing program icons in the systray. I have a handful of programs
automatically startup when I turn my puter on.
Everytime some show up some don't, I do a restart and others show up and
others don't.....

All my settings are set right w/ each program to show icon in the tray....
sometimes only one icon shows up then another time maybe 4-5 show up.......

same w/ my network connection icon and volume icon....these show up whenever
they like. I had to put shortcuts to these programs on my desktop,
otherwise I wouldn't...

I check the task manager and all these programs are loaded/running.

Don't know what else to do, appreciate any help, thanks

Right-click your taskbar and choose Properties.

If "Hide inactive icons" is switched on, switch it off. You should have been
able to see a little circle with < in it beside the systray - clicking this
would reveal the rest of the icons for a short time. Switching off the above
option will leave them all permanently visible.

No, the check box next to "Hide Inactive Icons" is unchecked, so all icons
should be showing up...
Thanks..

Unless that is a fake email address or you don't mind getting Spam it is
recommended to "munge" your email address, currently the SWEN virus is
harvesting emails to be able to spread via those collected email addresses.
Other Viruses and humans do this too...
To munge the email address add something easily understood to the email
address such as if your email address was (e-mail address removed) then you should
add (e-mail address removed) or something similar
Sorry that i do not have any suggestions about the topic originally posted
but i personally dont like spam so go figure.

I put systray.exe in my startup folder, this didn't work.

I also went through each of my programs that I want to startup at startup
and disabled the start at startup feature in each program, then went to
program files and made a shortcut to the programs in the startup
folder....this did not work either...

Even w/ all the problems w/ no icons in the systray all the programs ARE
starting and running correctly....I checked task manager each time....

It worked for me so you could try it:
Right-click on My Computer
Click on Manage
Expand 'Services & Applications'
Highlight 'Services'
Look through list of services on the right....
Find Universal Plug & Play Device Host
Right-click on it.
Click properties.
Change startup type to 'Disabled'
Do exactly the same with 'SSDP discovery service'
Problem should be solved, TADA..
Icons show up during startup, restart, logon/logoff, after standby and after
hibernation.......

Found another workaround.... In windows components, uninstall plug n play.
although this works, you wont have use of plug n play, but can always
install yer new hardware the old way via manufacturers installation cd...
Cant have yer cake and eat it too...sorry...

I notice none of your posts are informative or helpful. If you don't have
anything worthwhile to offer to the solution of a thread then keep your
stupid ass comments to yourself, ****wad....
