Hello,
The system32 folder pops up every time I log in. I've checked the common
things in the registry, tried Kelly's script. I'm at a complete loss as to
what to do. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot

If you get this message...
[[This script cannot repair your issue. The expected Registry value was not
found.]]

Kelly's script looks for SB Audigy 2 Startup Menu value in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
This is a real common problem with Dell machines that have an OEM version of
the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card. But it isn't the only thing that
causes the System32 folder to open at startup.

I did check the start up programs with msconfig, but I didn't know what to
check for. I was hesitant to uncheck boxes not knowing the consequence :-/
I'd gladly use your suggestions. There is a sytem32 ctfmon file that is
checked when I run the msconfig.
Thanks much!!

ctfmon is ok. Look for something like run explorer c:\windows\system32
If you make me a list I can tell you what is ok.

there are only two c:\windows...here is the other one
c:\windows\sytem32/WLTRAY.exe

Would you like a list of the others as well? I'm looking under the Start Up
tab.

Writers cramp ;) Not used to actually writing things...here goes:

VP Tray c:\progra~1\symant~vptray.exe
Launch~1 c:\program1\nokia\nokiap~1\launch~1.exe - start up
CC App c:\programfiles\commonfiles\symantecshared\ccapp.exe
atiptaxx c:\programfiles\ATItechnologies\ATIcontrolpanel\atiptaxx.exe
Apoint c:\programfiles\apoint\apoint.exe
Jushed c:\programfiles\java\jn1.5.0_07\bin\jusched.exe
quiet - quiet
PcSync2 c:\programfiles\nokia\nokiapcsuite6\pcsync.exe nodialog
MsnMgr c:\programfiles\msnmessenger\msnmsgr.exe background
AcrobateAsst c:\progra~1\adobe1acroba~1.0\distillr\acrotray.exe
Adobe Gamma Loader c:\progra~1\common~1\adobe\cabibr~1\adobeg~1.exe
Winzip Quick Pick c:\progra~1\winzip\wzqkpick.exe

Enjoy!

All seem to be ok.It can be a registry problem. Go to the link suggested by
Wesley Vogel :

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

and dowload file "xp_system32opens.vbs" you can find it on somewhere onthe
right column, in cell called "System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot". After
download, dobleclick and see if your problem is solved.
If not just let me know.

A box came up that said the script could not repair my issue. I've tried it
twice now. I saved it to my desktop and ran it and also ran it directly. No
luck.

run regedit ang go to those 2 locations:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You will find some entries, "REG_SZ" type. I f you see one of them empty
(like "" or " "), delete it.

"value not set" it's ok.

For me it does not look good, normal is "Data" point to a path+file name. I
don't think you have a files 1.exe or 1.com or -quiet.exe or -quiet.com (or
batch) in c:\windows\system32

Shot in the dark.........

Right click your Start button. You should be a Programs folder in the
window. If so, double click on it. You should see a Startup folder. If so,
double click it.

If it opens, do you see anything there that might be the culprit?

Nothing looks out of place. Thanks though!

Am I looking for anything specific? Everything looks legit.

Did I mention that my time display will sometimes get moved 2 hours back?
It happens randomly. I don't know if it's a related problem.

Disable all items from start up tab with msconfig and see if sys32 is
pop-up...enable items on by one to see who is reponsable for this.

I found this thread because I'm having the same problem. THere is nothing
in msconfig or the Startup folder that seems to be the culprit.

I used the article below to check the registry. In the two keys mentioned,
there are no numm or blank values, with one exception. The first value in
each key is "(Default)". In both cases, the value is "(value not set)".
Those are the only "null" values, but I don't think I can delete (Default),
can I?

I also checked hte keys "RunOnce" and "RunOnceEx". The only values they
have is (Default), and they are not set.

Like another poster, I have data of "1" for some "OptionalComponents"
values. These are not file names, but I think they're flags, and, so,
probably not the problem.

Any other ideas?
