Hi, My system32 file seems to have vanished. any ideas

This is probably because system32 is a folder, not a file.
Furthermore, if your system32 folder had disappeared
then Windows would not be able to start.

Vanished ? - The PC wouldn't boot or run without it. Do you mean
the folder and contents aren't visible using Windows Explorer ? The
Folder Options, View (TAB) has 3 options that need changing so
that all content on the PC is visible with Explorer.
-Files and Folders (Category)
Show Hidden Files & Folders (Toggle to this Option)
Hide extensions for Known File Types (Uncheck)
Hide Protected Operating System Files (Uncheck)
Apply, OK

Hi Michael,

If they were truly missing, you would not have a working system. I suspect
that your folder options are not set correctly for viewing hidden and system
files. Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options, and on the View tab, set the
options so you can see hidden and system files. Specifically:

Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"

I also recommend that you disable (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file
types".
