I just Googled a bit on "res://c:windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm", a
few days ago, and found quite a few folks with your problem. It's apparently an
LSP / Winsock corruption problem:

You might do well to run a thorough spyware scan of the computer, concluding
with HijackThis and expert advice, if you haven't already done so.

BTW, you putting your problem description in the Subject line makes it a real
pain in the @ss to work on your problem. Read this article too please:

Chuck thanks for the input, I tried the winsock fix and and the lsp and
spyware removal, but I still get the dns error. I found out that the laptop
is xp windows sp1 and the desk top is windows xp sp2 I will try to update the
laptop and see if this helps. Thanks for your web blogs they helped a lot.
If I ever get this laptop to connect to the internet through my laptop I will
be and expert on networking

Well, when you have a malware problem, the ultimate process (currently) is
HijackThis and expert advice. Have you done that? Can you post a link to the
forum where you had your HJT log interpreted? That's the key to this. Malware
is getting more and more sneaky, and I'd bet that the known LSP / Winsock
repairs may not be sufficient for too long. The malware removal experts will
help with all of that.

I'm glad you're getting experience. That's one of the purposes of this forum.
Just don't quit til everything works.

I finally figured it out the problem that caused the shdoclc error wasn't any
malware adware or hijack problem, it was that my connection isp's like
walmart connect and aristotle wouldn't allow sharing. I had to sign up for
earthlink its connection software allows sharing and my problem was solved.

Gack. Walmart Connect. Glad you got THAT sorted. Thanks for updating the
thread.
