hi, my system32 folder opened automatically upon startup. I've searched on
the web for this, and it suggests that i have some null entries in my
registry :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

but I've checked there is no such null entries there, so waht else could be
the cause?
thanks

Hello!
This behavior can occur if a null, incomplete, or damaged
entry exists in the registry. But in your case it is
different as you have mentioned that there is no null entry.
Run msconfig and disable (uncheck) the entire startup group
to test.
System Restore may be another option.

I've found the cause, there is an entry registry, the value name is SB
Audigy 2 Startup Menu, the value data is /L:ENG
And this is reflected in msconfig as follow:
Startup Item: /L:ENG
Command: /L:ENG
Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I think maybe windows is not happy with such a file path (ie, /L:ENG), and
for some reason it opens the system32 folder.

From my distance memory about autoexec.bat and config.sys. I think this
entry is seems to belongs to these two files rather than in the registry, i
dont why it's there.
is this a bug in Sound blaster?

i think i'll be safe to just delete/disable it from msconfig, but just
wondering why is this happen, and is it meant to be in there?
if it's not safe to delete the entry, do I must create the autoexec.bat and
config.sys files for this?
Thanks again!

It seems to be a 'switch', intended to come after the actual program to
be run, ('Language - English' is my guess) and the program has got left
out. This is then an invalid program, and the reaction - to open
System32 - is known

Not in XP, which does not use these files.

Yes it is - it has been reported several times recently. A fault in
their installation program - and not the first
