i did indeed search for this on google, in this forum, and just about
everywhere, but nothing i have tried has worked

i have disabled every startup service, startup program, and everything
in every tab in msconfig except for system.ini and boot.ini and after
restarting it doesnt fix the problem

i have also consulted the microsoft knowledge base article and kelly's
korner's automatic fix (the reigstry key was not found)

what should i do

please, i really need help
anything you can do would be appreciated

Hi,

Could you please export and post the contents of these keys in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To do this, start/run regedit, expand the branches to each key (do this one
at a time). Click on the key, then on file/export. Give it any name, then
save to the desktop. Once you have saved both keys, close the registry
editor. Right-click one of the saved files on the desktop, choose edit, it
should open in notepad. Click edit/select all/edit/copy. Open a response to
this post and click in the message text area. Hit ctrl+v to paste the
contents. Repeat for the other saved key, then send the post for
examination.

first off the two people who gave me links i explicitly said i already
visited kelly's korner and the microsoft article, and yet you gave me
just that

for some reason when i run regedit it doesnt appear, just an ms-dos
window pops up and the dissappears

so im using lavasoft reghance

oh yea and in an attempt to fix it i put quotes around everything in
those two registry entries

since i cant export as text, i took a screenshot of it ...the top pic
is local machine, the bottom is current user

Hi,

They seem ok. Start/run msconfig, uncheck half the entries on the startup
tab. Click apply/ok and reboot. Does it still open? If not, then the problem
is one of the disabled entries. Re-enable half of them and do it again. If
it does open, then the problem is with something that you did not disable.
Continue this use of halves until you isolate the culprit.

Hi,

On the general tab, click diagnostic startup - does it still occur when you
reboot?

and to Rick Nutcase Rogers: that doesnt work...

this all started when i installed Windows OneCare

That darn software screwed my whole computer up. Not only does system32
appear now, but I can't turn on Windows Firewall because it is
controlled by Group Policy (im almost 100% certain onecare did that)
even though I uninstalled OneCare.

my friend got the same error...it only got fixed when he formatted his
computer and reinstalled windows...
