Which system volume information files are safe to
delete? They're not causing a problem but it bugs me
that they're using up so much space, and if some can go,
then I'd like to get rid of them. Thanks.

None. They contain your restore points.

Candace...Here's link you might find interesting. It's
for a tweak that explains how to delete all but your last
restore point and to limit future stockpiling of old info
in System Restore by limiting the space available through
the System Restore tab in My Computer/Properties. I have
used this tweak with no problem for about a year now.

Terry;
Why do with a 3rd party tweak what Windows can already do thru Disk
Cleanup "Other Options" tab?

Restore Points are not "stockpiling".
You make it seem way to complicated.
Once the allocated space is full (based on your preference), older
Restore Points are deleted on a First In First Out basis automatically
to make room for new restore Points.
System Volume Information is Self Purging of old data.

In short, there is absolutely no need for a tweak as you describe
unless you simply want to use a 3rd party tool which increases the
chances for further issues.
Windows quite easily does as you describe this tweak:

I read the tweak in my link as being a simplified view of
the information outlined at the link you left - maybe I
misunderstood it. I was hoping to show Candace exactly
what you and Mr. Squirrel pointed out - that Windows
provides the tools needed to address the issue she raised.
If I erred I certainly apologize - I acted with good
intentions.
