I'm just a home user, running Windows XP Pro on my system. I am
configured as an administrator, but for some reason when I try to
access certain folders, like System Volume Information, I get an
Access Denied message. Why is this? As an administrator I believe I
should be able to access anything on the system.

This also happens with the folders that some Windows Updates leave
behind on my back drives. How do I work around this? Excluding
System Volume Information, those stray folders are annoying and I want
to be rid of them.

Hi Jack,

The System Volume Information folder is a hidden, system folder that the
System Restore tool uses to store its information and restore points. To
access the system volume folder follow the instructions in the KB article
given below:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309531#appliesto

Regarding the other issue, what is the error you are getting while trying
to access the folders that Windows update saves in your hard disk ?
