Can anyone please give me a clue what could be wrong with
my system. everytime i restart or turn on computer it
takes ages to start all i get for the first couple of
minutes is a flickering screen then i get the welcome
screen. I have a brand new system so it seems strange to
be so slow.

Has it always been slow? Or has it been getting slower as you add new
software? Either way, check out what kind of things have been busy adding
themselves to your startup group. Click Start> Run and type in MSCONFIG.
Click on the Startup tab.

Review the list of startup items. Decide which ones you need and which ones
you can live without. Open the main programs that the unwanted items belong
to and look through the menus for a way to disable the startup behavior.

If unable to find the Off switch for the startup item, uncheck it in the
MSCONFIG screen. You will get a notice at the next boot that your startup
configuration has changed. Of course it has, you just unchecked startup
items - so check the box "do not show me this screen again" and click OK.

Also be sure to use good maintenance tools with your new computer. Check
periodically for spyware. You can do a quick check by visiting
http://www.aumha.org/noads.htm and AdAware from Lavasoft
(www.lavasoftusa.com) is a good removal tool for these parasites.

Install an antivirus program if you didn't get one with the computer. Be
sure to keep up on the updates of the virus definitions.
