Periodically, but generally after starup, various icons
disappear from my system tray. The programs are running
in task manager; however, things such as volume control,
power properties, and a number of other things I have
installed are missing as well. Although this happens from
time to time, it recently became a problem after
installing Sophos anti-virus. I re-installed Sophos and
it still happens. I also went through and disabled and
then re-enabled each of my system tray icons and
nonetheless after restarting, they disappear again. Can
anyone give me a hint? Thanks.

Mike,

Using the Registry Editor, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
and add the following string: Max Cached Icons
then change the value to 8000
Reboot.

I think Kelly (he's a genius at this) has a downloadable registry patch for
this :)

Kelly,

You have helped me several times with fixes and your websites are
invaluable. This was the first time I went to the expertzone website and I
am now very embarassed to say the least. I sincerely apologize. You get two
smiles :) :)

Most welcome, Mike and "yall" fits right in here in Louisiana. Good luck!

I noticed your last name (Theriot) in another post, and kinda figured you
might be from the bayou. I'm in BR.

Thank you, Kelly. Now, I have another one for you. After re-installing WinXp,
SP2, attempting to correct an updating issue with Acrobat 6.0 standard, I now
receive this error message as soon as Windows opens the desktop: "Unable to
initialize tray icon". Everything seems to work, but the message is
disturbing to the PC user, who thinks the pc is not reliable.

Any ideas? Thanks. Johnnson.
