system tray icons

go>start\run and type in msconfig and hit ok. Now click
the startup tab and uncheck programs you don't want
loading and running on bootup. If you need the registry
route to remove items from this list e:mail me. Good luck.

And how do I make a particular icon to appear in my system tray ?

Like I want my LAN connection icon to appear but currently it is not showing
up.

select your LAN connection (in control panel, network connections),
r-click, properties, tick the box.

Note also the r-click, taskbar, properties, which allows you to
show/hide icons in the notification area, (the customise button).
However the systray is notably buggy, so don't be surprised if what you
get isn't quite what you asked for.
