I have been tweaking the look of Windows xp by using Display
Properties>Appearance>Advanced. I believe that without noticing at
first, I did something that messed up the system tray icons. First they
appeared larger than normal and pixelated. Then i tried to fix the
problem and before I knew it, they had all just turned into blobs of
color. This is really annoying and I have not been able to find a way
to fix this problem. I think there may be some way to do a basic reset
of something that would fix this, but none of my ideas have worked.

Do a System Restore to before you started "tweaking".
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
"Restore my computer to an earlier time"

ive got the same problem and that taskbar repari says ive got to pay 5 dollars. i dont want to pay 5 dollars and dont have a credit card.

i can no longer see my icon beside my clod for they are grey blobs

i have the solution to this problem. i'd 1st off like to thank those with the previous fix for this problem. now, under display properties, appearance tab, advance, there will be in the list of changeable items. click on this list the item captain buttons. this changes the size of the minimize, full-screen, close buttons on the top right corner of windows applications. this also effects the icons you see in the right side of task bar and the taskbar size. if adjusted too big it starts to become pixelized. bring the caption buttons size down some until it becomes clear again. this worked for me and should help you too. hope this helped
