System tray fails on bootup-XP Home SP2

Since installing SP2 a couple of weeks ago (from the CD), on the first
bootup of the day I get the message "The system tray application has
encountered a problem and needs to close.....", and I only have about 3 of
the 7 or so icons I expect to see. When I reboot, the system tray seems to
work OK. I dutifully send off an error report, but I really would like to
fix this.
Has anyone else had this problem?

it actaull says system tray application? Isn't that a win 9x thing? I
thought it was part of explorer in 2k /xp... Certainly doesnt show in my
task list...

It actually does say "system tray application" -- now that you mention it,
though, I don't see a systray.exe in my active processes, although the
system tray is nicely loaded....(had to reboot to get it, though--it burped
on my first boot this morning (as usual)).
