Matt

I just upgraded from Me to XP. The install appeared to go
smoothly until I logged in. A window immediately pops up
to indicate that the system is attempting to install
Office XP Pro, then another window indicates that it can't
find the necessary files and I'm asked to indicate their
location, and finally, a third window appears that
indicates an error occurred and my system will
automatically shut down and restart in 60 seconds. Has
anyone else seen this?

I tried to repair the problem from the install disk but
that had no effect. I figured that I would try a new
installation next, if there is no alternative. TIA

Looks like Windows 1 and 2 are from a corrupt Office XP install on the
network (do you have AD?) check group policy settings.

Window 3 is the RPC error. disconnect your computer from the net download
the MS04-11 fix and apply it before putting your computer onto the internet

Thanks, Mark. I do have MS Office (Small Business
version) installed but I've never tried to install Office
XP. Wouldn't it just be easier to perform a new
installation and reinstall MS Office, etc. (since I have
all of the disks anyway), and then get the SP2 automatic
update? Wouldn't the MS04-11 fix be included? Thanks.

Matt
