Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help?

My computer operates with Windows XP and all is fine,
until I connect to the internet. Everytime I connect
within 10 seconds a small window appears, saying that the
system needs to shut down and is intiated by NT
authority\system.

Then below this it states the reason is because the remote
procedure call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.

This then counts down from 60 seconds and restart my
computer. This keeps happening when I log on to the
internet.

Any advice would be greatfully received.

Kind regards
Mario

I have the same problem. A friend asked me for help
becasue after 5 minutes she got the error message that the
system was shutting down as'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Service has terminated unexpectedly'. I suspected a virus
and found she had the W32.Blaster worm. I removed it but
we still get the problem with a different error message:
Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services encoutered a
problem
szAppName:svcgist.exe
szAppVer:5.1.2600.0
sz ModName: unknown
szModver:0.0.0.
offset:00000000
files in error report
C:\Document~1 ... svchost.exe.mdmp and
C:\Document~1 ...appcompact.txt

I still suspect another virus (even though an up todate
virus scan came up clear)and there are several trojans
which dump a file called svchost.exe - how do I tell the
difference between the trojan file and the legit Windows
file?

I'd appreciate any advice on this. Is it likely to be a
virus or is there some other cause?
