I recently installed Windows XP on my Compaq Presario 1200 laptop; it previously ran on ME
Severa problems: when I'm online, a box comes on saying there is a problem with the remote RPC, and the system goes into a shutdown phase

A "low disc space" message reappears repeatedly, even though there is nothing to empty in the recycle bin

When I boot the computer, most of the screen is filled with a box that says "System 32" is hidden. It ususally pops up two times before it goes away

Suggestions?

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabled a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and before installing
the KB824146 Hotfix, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

The rpc problem is bcoz of the blaster virus wor
go to task manager -> processes and der u can see msblast end the process if u want to connect to the ne
to disable it type msconfig in run windo
here goto startup and disable msblast before rebootin
to remove it permenantly go to microsoft site and download the blaster removal tool
