When trying to create a restore point I get a system restore message window
appear stating ......"System Restore is unable to create a restore point.
Please restart the computer and then run System Restore again"

I tried restarting PC and running System Restore again but still get the
above message.

Help appreciated in resolving.

John,

Thankkd for your reply. 120GB HDD with 78GB free so no issue here on
available space. 10% is set aside for system restore.

Peter,

You jump to wrong conclusion. No Norton products installed!

As well as system restore issues I also had problems with installing updates
which weren't reported as failed installs but as cancelled installs (?).
Guess there must be one or more file corruptions. Decided to perform a
repair install of XP and take it from there.

Successfully repaired. System Restore now functioning and outstanding
updates downloaded and installed without issues; including those that were
being reported failed/cancelled installs.

Thanks to all who responded.
