My system Restore "turn off/Turn on button is grayed out.
It says it is disabled by Group Policy! I also cant
change the restore disk setting size. I can disable
System restore thru the services but thats about it. Im
using WinXP so I dont have the group policy editor
installed. Any clues how to fix this?

Hi Rick,

For Pro: GPEDIT.MSC can be used to disable/enable System Restore. Disabling
it causes the tab to vanish from System Properties.

Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, System Restore.
The option is turn off System Restore, and it should be Disabled or Not
Configured.

For Home: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore
Value name: DisableSR. Value of 1 turns it off, 0 or deleting it turns it
on.

Or run this regfile:

Restore/Enable System Restore (Line 278)

Well I did already do that! I'm wondering if some other
windows tweak program I mya have used has disabled the
check box. I can turn it on via services but I can't gain
control of the settings or that check box.

Hi Rick,

Did you manually check the registry value? Does it read correctly? Does it
save if modified? Did this happen after installing MP9?

Also, in gpedit if the setting reads Not Configured, change it to Enabled,
apply. Then set it to Disabled, apply.

Good luck!
