I was wondering if anybody knows if it's possible for me to type in a
specific time & date to restore the computer back to beside the one's listed?
The reason is because for some reason after I tried to install a program
from Windows Marketplace to open rar files, a majority of stuff on my desktop
disappeared & I've tried finding them (I also went to the help desk on my
campus & they couldn't help me!). Thanks!

I'm "almost sure" that you can't restore to any other date/time other than
what's listed. No restore files are made other than for those particular
dates. For the computer to have restore points other than those listed
would require the operating system to be in a constant state of saving data
and restore points. There are programs that will do this, such as Go Back,
but for most people, System Restore is all that's needed.

If you allot a large portion of the hard disk for System restore, you would
most likely have a Restore Point every day. That should suffice. Plus, you
can make a Restore Point manually BEFORE you do anything suspicious. If
there's a problem, then you can restore immediately.

No, you can't. What you see listed are the times and dates that
restore points were created. You can only restore to one of the
existing restore points.

Annette,
Clarify please! Did the icons just disappear from your Desktop OR were they
removed from your Desktop folder OR both? By the way, your Desktop folder is
located at: C:\Users\your user name\Desktop. An
example=C:\Users\Annette\Desktop.

The icons were completely removed/deleted from my computer. I have the
Microsoft Word restored on the laptop but couldn't salvage the missing
document with my homework. I tried opening the missing Word Document by
opening Word and opening the deleted file through the Recent Documents choice
& I also tried going through with the task bar choice of Recent Items but it
said the file has been removed/moved and the shortcut is no longer
accessible. And then I also tried to use the Search option in the task bar
but I couldn't find the missing Word file. I don't know if that helps, but
that's how I tried to find it but couldn't so I believe that it's gone
forever.
