Using RStrui.exe , does anyone what files are stored in the creation
of a restore point?

thanks

Hi David,

System Restore monitors a core set of system and application files,
archiving the states of these files before system changes are made.
System Restore also saves a snapshot of the registry (note: some
current registry values will persist) and some dynamic system files.
When System Restore detects that the user is not actively using the
computer, (Idle time) it compresses the registry and any file copies
made.

1. I did run system restore on my machine. I then opened up the folder
per this: http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-10877-5836422.html. I
notice that all the that if the registry wasn't backup up

Here are most of the files and I don't see what was backed up except
the registry:

2. I also run this:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\srdiag.exe According this page:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm Information is based
on MS #Q302343 which I can't find. Information includes:
Srdiag.exe collects all information that is related to System Restore
and puts it in a .cab file. The .cab file name is then
automatically generated by using the computer name, followed by a
timestamp for the month, day, and year, as well as a timestamp for the
hour, minutes and seconds of the .cab file creation.
As I see, the cab file really doesn't have a whole lot of useful
information.

I tried the old Symantec product called GoBack 4.0. But it really a
CPU hog.

Is there really a good product for system restore out there.

thanks

Please contact Microsoft. I'm sure they'll want to know that the web page
"leaves something out".

I used Ghost 9.0. The problem with Ghost was that I wasn't able to
use the Recovery CD that came with SystemWorks 2005. I have asked
Symantec to provide me with help on that issue.

David,
Okay, forget the Symantec link then, you might just try the True Image
trialware version
and see if it suits you, your call.. I had a similer problem with the NG
included with an older ver of NSW..
I even bought the NG stand alone ver, had a few compatability problems with
my NIC card, that never got
solved, each OEM blaming the other, you know..
