Over last 2 weeks while trying to fix a problem with my DLINK DSL Modem
Driver, (which by the way DLINK conceed there is a problem with the
driver but don't know what it is and cannot help me, leaving me high and
dry), I had to on 7 occasions set a restore point and after trying
several things had to restore back to these points. On 4 occasions,
everything did not restore correctly necessitating the reloading of
other software etc.
Is this a known failure of system restore, or do I have some other problem.
My Windows XP Home is up to date.

Hi Bruce,

There are several reasons this may occur. Let's take a look at Event
Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently
that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There's no need to post duplicate Event ID's.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?

Followed these instructions .. ther are no "sr" enties and 3 "srservice"
entries all listed blow:

To me, does not seem to indicate anything erong!

Wash your mouth out! Criticism of SR, either direct or indirect, is
treated as blasphemy in these NGs and you risk the wrath of MVPs. Beware!
:-).

OK thanks for your advice. I washed it with Rum and Coke, diet Coke as a
matter of fact.

I see that you are at it again Edward, misleading the readers. Plato
pointed out that SR is not perfect. There's not one MVP here that would
disagree with that. There's not a peace of software out that is. What is
getting old is having to correct the misinformation your feeding the
readers here.

Hi Bruce,

Unfortunately these events don't help.

Has this bad driver issue been causing bad shutdowns or blue screens?

I would suggest taking a look at these troubleshoot steps, and they
don't work out try reinstalling System Restore. You will find
instruction at the bottom of the page.
