System restore

I carried out a system restore on another machine and
when xp started the restore it said all my documents
would go into a file called backup.
I can get to the programs in the backup file. But when I
go into documents and settings I cannot get into the file
with my name on it. It says access denied

Can anybody help me I'm desperate

I think you're a little confused about terminology: Windows XP's system
restore feature has no effect on your documents. Were you trying to
reinstall your software?

Yes I was trying to re-install windows xp under the
guidance of the bundled disc and thats when my files
unded up where I said and now I cannot get to them

Did you use the vendor's recovery CDs? Those are specific to the vendor, so
you'll have to ask the vendor for help.

Did you perform a clean install, which completely erases your hard disk?
Your documents are gone.

Did you re-install Windows over itself, following Microsoft's instructions:

Your documents weren't touched.
