No matter what restore point is chosen, the program fails. Would like advice
on why, how to repair it and if it is possible. Thanks for any help you can
give.

Once the restore point container file has been corrupted by some malware
you will need to disable System Restore to clear the file out. After
that you may re-enable it to create a fresh restore point.

If the other recomendations do not work, i reccomend backing up all
your needed data. Then perfoming a clean install with windows again,
this has happened to a friend of mine and that is the only way we were
able to fix it.

to repair system restore feature, see download (from link, below) and goto,
Line 278. (left column). "Restore/Enable System Restore" click on it and
download the reg file. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt, to install.

also, if needed, 289. Restore System Restore Service
