System restore won't work.

OK, I tried once to post this and got an error message. I was reading the thread about a non-functional system restore. I had numerous restore points on my computer but when I tried to take the system back one day the message came up unable to restore to that time. I tried numerous times each time taking the system back an additonal 24 hours each time with the error message. I shut off system restore and it cleared all the restore points out. I then turned on system restore and created a restore point. I haven't tried it out yet but am looking for some response from any of you as to what might have caused this. Will respond to all.
 
Hi Gayle,

I think XP is super, but there are faults. "System Restore" is supposed to
be a way to get you out of trouble, when it works, it's great.
Unfortunately, it has a bad habit of becoming corrupt. Probably, what you
have done has created a reliable restore point, for now!
