Help. I can't get System Restore to work on my Dell
desktop or my HP laptop. Both are running XP. I can
pick a restore point several weeks back, and it will go
through the process, restart the computer, but when I get
back to the desktop, it says it cannot restore to the
date I chose. I tried to go back one day at a time all
the way back about a month, and I get the same message
every time. How can I get System Restore to restore
again?

Donald I am so glad I'm not the only one experiencing
this problem. I myself posted this same issue and still
waiting for a reply. If one of us gets a reply sooner
than the other please let me know or vice-versa.

Thanks

Donald;
There may be corrupted data in system Restore.
Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.

I've tried this method myself as I'm experincing the same
problem. It didn't work.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you

Hello Jupiter,

I am also having this problem and have tried all the fixes but still no
system restore. I have tried what you suggested, ie, shutting off system
restore and going back and turning it on and it works fine the first timeon
the day of that action. The next day it is back to not restoring.

On both computers at the same time? Could it be a virus
of some kind? My McAfee virus program and Trend Micro's
House Calls say both hard drives are clear. Turning off
the System Restore and setting a new restore point
doesn't do any good.
