By default windows is setting a restore point after 24 hours. Is there
anyway of altering this to a longer period??

Thanks.

Remember to back up your registry first. To change the time between system
restore points, Start/ Run/ type regedit and browse to registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu
rrentVersion\SystemRestore. In RPGlobalInterval it is set to 86400 (seconds)
which represents 24 hours. Change it your setting.

Hi Spikey,

Look for the script (XPSystemRestorePointFrequency.vbs) on the following
page to change the restore point frequency.
System Restore Scripts & Utilities:

Before changing this sitting, take a look at this page. Often times it's
best to reduce the amount of disk space SR uses to hold restore points
rather than changing the frequency at which they are created.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to post them here.

Thanks for this information.

Today Spikey commented courteously on the subject at hand

/Much/ better to control the amount of HD space you want to
reserve than to risk a visit from Murphy by tweaking the System
Checkpoint time upwards. If your system does go bump in the
night, and you're not doing regular backups, you're very likely
hosed. Adjust the amount of space so that a month's worth of RPs
are left, or even less, is kept. After a couple of weeks,
rolling back causes more problems than it fixes, so you really
don't need the full 12%, the normal XP default.

System Restore, my thoughts.. is the mother of all evil. It is like giving
glasses to a blind human. Are you relying on this to proctect you from
software failure... hope not :) Disable System Restore, I think is the way to
go!
Why? investigate!

AHHH Where the reset button?

This is bad advice. Possibly you are misunderstanding the purpose of
System Restore, which is not to back up your drive. System Restore is
very useful to unwind from immediate mistakes, bad driver/software
installs, and the like. It isn't meant as a backup substitute. If you
are using your reset button frequently, then you are doing something
wrong and/or there are hardware-related problems with your computer.
