I have tried shutting it off and on again thus clearing the cache and making
sure that corrupted files are gone. It worked once after that, but now
error comes up, could not resore for an unspecified error!

Norton 2007 fix has been sugegsted, but it was working for a month with
Norton 2007 installed.

Any ideas?

Billy

Personally I would get rid of anything that says Norton from my computer.
That said, the two things that most affect System Restore are dual booting
and defraggers.
If you are dual booting with XP, or using a third party defragger, maybe
Norton's, it can cause problems.

Thanks, but I am using System mechanic defrag? perhpas this is the reason.
Norton 2007 is a firewall adn AV only. I am not dual boot as Vista Hprem
was preinstalled on the new dv9288ea laptop.

Thanks very much indeed, i will try not defragging and see what happens.

I have done this John, should I turn off the scheduled windows defrag as
well?

Billy

THANKS

I haven't seen any reports of anyone having problems with that, but for a
week or two until you resolve it, it wouldn't hurt. One of the defrag
companies has a KB article that seems to indicate it could be a problem.

Thanks that's all defrag off, there are people who suggest that on NTFs
defrag doesn't really do much anyway!

Thanks for the help, let's see if that resolves it.

Billy

Sorry John

I also use rambooster (rambooster.net) which defrags the RAM, would that
possibly corrupt System restore also? I am a bit of a novice in soem
departments

Billy

Very doubtful. You should be able to leave that alone. Personally, that
shouldn't be necessary anyway.

I am thinking that system mechanic and rambooster etc. are sodl to us
novices and are possibly completely uncessesary?

Billy

Well, after all that............... it still didn't restore. I then finally
and after avoiding it, went and disabled the 'protect my symantec product'
and lo and behold tried again adn it restored fine!!! Blooming Norton
struck again. Roll on free Zone alarm...........

Thanks anyway John, I am not going to use the one click tools any more

Billy

Glad it is solved.
