Hello:

I have used System Restore four or five times in the four years I
have had my computer, and it has worked like a charm. I went to use it
the other day (fortunately, not anything critical) and it came back up
saying: "Could not complete the restore - choose another date". I
tried all five backup dates I have - same thing. As I said, it's not
critical right now, but why is it doing that, and is there a "cure"?
Many thanks for any response!

Could be one of the restore points is corrupted. Turn off system
restore then turn it back on again. Right click My Computer |
Properties | System Restore. Put a tic mark in Turn off System Restore.
That will delete all restore points. The reboot and turn it back on.
See if that helps.

System Restore is a great tool when it works, but unfortunately it's not as
reliable as we would like it to be. Sometimes restore points get corrupted
and it doesn't work.

When that happens, your only recourse is turning it off (thereby losing all
your restore points, but they didn't work anyway) and turning it back on.
That won't help you restore now, but it will let you create good restore
points in the future.

That did the trick, Rock - thank you! - and to Ken, who's reply I
read later.

Until it fails again that is :-).
