System Restore Points, where are they?

In which folder on my hard drive in MCE05 are Sytem Restore Points saved? I
think CCleaner, Window Washer, or Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner is
deleting them!

System restore, which uses the 'system volume information' folder, has a
finite size. Once the size limit has been reached, older restore points are
deleted as new ones are added.

Does anybody know which of those programs is deleting the "system volume
information" folder System Restore Points or where they are being stored?

They are stored in the folder Jason Hynes told you: C:\System Volume
Information.

None of the programs you suspect is deleting them is doing so. Why do you
think that? How do you know they are being deleted?

An excellent source of information on System restore is

I'm sorry...I thought "system volume information" was vague or generic. I
thought that the System Restore Points were being deleted because the ones I
had created last month are gone! I can only recover restore points from
yesterday and today! With Windows Live OneCare Clean Up Scanner, there is a
check mark in front of Create System Restore, with the Registry Cleaner. Is
that to CREATE a Restore point or to DELETE the issue found in the registry?

How much disk space do you have allocated to System Restore?

Also note that reverting to a restore point more than a week or so old is
likely to cause other problems, getting other files out of synch with the
registry. So there's no need to use the 12% that Windows defaults to. It
just lets you save more old useless restore points.

Sorry, I know next to nothing about Windows Live OneCare, and can't help you
with it.

Did you go to Bert Kinney's site I recommended below? http://bertk.mvps.org/
You will find nearly all your System Restore questions answered there.

Sorry, again! I didn't read ALL of your previous post. System Restore is set
to 12%. I guess that's the default. I will check out that web site.

Yes, it is the default, and far more than most people need. Whatever gives
you a week or two's worth of Restore Points is all you need.

I will check out that web
site.

Good.

Hmmmm. That's really, really weird. The exact same thing happened to me
a week or so ago. My system had deleted about 180 restore points for no
apparent reason and only the ones from the past two days were left. The
exact same thing happened to a friend a few days ago.

When it happened, we both saw the "Windows Update" icon briefly appear
in the systray icon. He has Windows Update set to "automatic" while mine
is awt to off. After I noticed the restore points were gone, I also
noticed Windows Update was set to "automatic" on my computer. Microsoft
doing something sneaky here?
