System Restore Points lost on reboot

I have WinXP Pro. When I create a SR point it is saved in
the SVI folder - and System Restore will show me the
points created. However, when I switch off or reboot the
computer, the files still appear in the SVI folder, but
system restore tells me that there are currently no
available restore points. I am therefore unable to use
System Restore. I have checked the extensive support
pages on System Restore but I cannot find anything
relating to this problem. I have more that sufficient
space for SR to operate and the slider on disk usage is
set to maximum.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Hi,
All you can do is stop the service, reboot and reinitialize it. All
existing restore points will be lost when you do this.

start>run services.msc>OK
Now scroll down to:-
system restore and double click it. Click the "stop" button and set the
startup mode to disabled. Reboot and undo these steps to restart it.
See whether it helps.

It may have built up trouble in its index files (not to mention a lot of
files taking up space that it is not seeing). When that happens it is
best to clear it out and let it start clean too. Control Panel - System
- System Restore. Check 'Disable System Restore, and OK, reboot. Now
delete everything in the System Volume Information folder on each drive

Start SR up again, and I suggest reviewing the settings for each drive.
There is not much point having it enabled on data drives, and on ones
with System or Programs I would reduce the space allotted if more than
say 1GB - I use 500MB, the minimum is 200 which will only handle maybe a
week of points. But the default of 12% of a drive seems too much for
its own good on modern large drives
