I get the message that sys restore was not able to restore to the point I
requested. I have seen posts about corrupt dates and to undo sys restore,
reboot and reestablish a new point. Also I have seen in the Notes that an
anti virus program may be preventing the restore. I have Norton antivus.
Which is the probable answer and how do I get sys rest. to work? Thanks.

Hi

That error message would suggest that one or more of the System Restore
files have become corrupt. You can try turning SR off/on, although you will
lose all existing checkpoints:

Right click on My Computer and select Properties>System Restore. Enable
'Turn off System Restore on all drives' - then reboot your PC. Go back into
SR and disable 'Turn off...' and then reboot again. After the second reboot
you should have one new checkpoint and SR should work properly after that.

if you attempted to do
a restore because of a problem
you are having, then you might
want to do a repair installation.

it might be possible that if you
have encountered one issue and
then you discovered an issue with
your system restore, there may be
many more you have yet to encounter...

the restore feature is pretty handy
but it has limitations that are not
unreasonable, so i suggest to continue
using it.

However, keep in mind that
system restore does not restore regular
user files, docs and pics. So you will
need a different tool & strategy to protect
these non system files.

You can test your restore points.
For example, create a restore point for
this moment in time.

Then find a prior restore point and
restore your pc to a former point in
time. If you were successful, then simply
bring your pc to current time by using your
newest restore point made a while
ago....

for more fyi on restore go to Microsoft.com
and search a criterion like restore winxp

Don't remember whre this came from, but ...
How do I reinstall System Restore?

Warning: This will delete ALL existing restore points.

Go to Start - Run and type %Windir%\INF then press enter.

In Windows Explorer go to Tools - Folder Options - View Tab and uncheck

"Hide extensions for known file types".

Find the sr.inf file, right click on it and select Install.

Or simply type or paste the following command into the Start - Run box and

press enter.

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

If the Files Needed dialog box appears, click Browse and point to the i386

folder on the Windows XP CD or to the i386 folder on the hard drive, if it

exists, of for systems updated with the Service Pack 2 CD or Download from

Microsoft, browse to the C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder.
