System Restore doesn't work

Hi All,
I need some help...I have some problems that I figured started with me
running System Mechanic 6.0 Pro. That program said I had some problems with
my HD and that it could fix them. Well needless to say it screwed up my HD.
I removed that problem thru the control panel but I wanted to use system
restore to correct all the other problems but when I click on the program,
the cursor changes like its suppose to but the changes back and the program
doesn't open. Some of the other problems are, my printer is recongizable, I
can't save anything to my CD R/W drives.

Any ideas other than using it as a boat anchor?

upon booting up hit F8 to get to safe mode
and see if you can run system restore from there...

if System Mechanic screwed that up
you'll need to boot from your XP cd and perform a repair installation
 
I'm having what appears to be the EXACT same problem. System Restore is
essentially locked up. I get the screen, but the curser will not function.
I tried to back my files up prior to doing anything else, and the majority of
them will not save or copy to CD. I virus scan daily, and spyware scan
daily, and it may be possible I installed System Machanic and then
uninstalled it. Have been crashing like crazy for the last week, and the
system restore lock-up happened today. Wondering if there's more to this
than just one or two of us.

the SAFE mode will work but when I try to use system restore the samething happens and I tried it at the C prompt also...anymore ideas?

I took a look at system mechanic and immediately uninstalled it.
If your system restore is really screwed up, have you tried using
system mechanic to UNDO what it did?

If this is not possible and you are unable to use SR to
revert the system, you may have to do a repair install.
