i am running xp home sp1.

i just noticed that start/all programs/accessories/system tools no longer
has an entry for system restore. all i see there is defragmenter, character
map, and activate windows.

i was able to run system restore by fumbling around in help till i found a
live link to it, which forced it open. it ran normally.

i went to the MS knowledge base and found some info on verifying that
system restore is operating ok and running it from a command prompt. no
problems there, i can run it from a command prompt as well.

while fishing around in my start menu, i also notice some other oddities,
such as event viewer nowhere to be found and administrative tools containing
only services. i thought i once had a performance and maintenance control
panel as well???

what is going on here and how do i get the proper menus back????

system is working great generally. the only issue is these disappearing
functions.

help??

: No you can't.

: Loojk at admin tools, start menu and programs. Make sure they havn't been changed.

administrative tools contains only services. not sure if that is standard or
not.

i don't notice any other changes offhand in start menu or programs other
than the 3 or 4 things i mentioned in my first post, but i don't drill down
into many of them very often, so i can't verify nothing else has changed. so
there are at least a few things goofy.

any suggestions?
