Registry Editing has been disabled by your administrator

Then, run a full system scan for viruses and other malware.

when i try to run msconfig it just flashes on the screen for a split second
and goes away.can't make it stay open, only maintenance program i'm running is
Norton Int. Sec. and Zone alarm.haven't installed any new programs for a few
mnths.

Hi ceking60,

If you are running Norton Internet Security and Zone Alarm you are running
two firewalls at the same time. You are not suppose to be doing that. Only
way is if you have them separated by user partitions. You could be even
running three if you are running either SP1 or SP2? Look in Zone Alarm and
see if there is any conflicts going on although it probably has nothing to do
with this issue.

Have you tried going into safe mode and trying msconfig.exe and system
restore?

Hi

Reinstalling XP via a 'Repair' install may not help if you have a virus
on-board. Try an online virus scan before thinking about a
reformat/reinstall:

As for System Restore - you won't be able to recover any previous
checkpoints, but try a reinstall:

Open Windows Explorer and go to the windows\inf folder. Find the sr.inf
file, right click on it and select Install.

Hi ceking60,

Don't do anything drastic as you are going to be able to solve this problem.
Ok, now if the system administrator has done this then you must go to this
user.
When you go into safe mode do you see the system administrator. Also have
you designated other system administrators. Are all your users intact? Look
to make sure if that is the case. If you have trouble going to system
information, then try this in your run command.
rundll32.exe % %SystemRoot%\System32\netplwiz.dll.UserRoot

Also check to see if you can run Help and Support as this will be another
difficulty.
Also you won't be able to use search either. The users a lot of times might
seem to be intact but they may not be. Be very careful about the permissions
you gave each user and let me know how many users you have?

Ok, if this does not work we can try some other things.

Hope this helps,

Alan

not running the firewall on NIS,have that disabled as my DSL router won't
work with the firewall turned on.only use the firewall in zone alarm.also
have the new windows firewall disabled.

edition SP2 CD is needed.I downloaded from Win update and can't find it on HD
anywhere.yet Windows update says it's still there

Hi ceking60,

You have an administrator and you have an owner. You being the owner as I
know you made yourself the administrator. But you have two administrators or
maybe even more. You go to My Computer, then C drive and click on it, then
documents and settings, Click on that and you will see all the users on your
system. You have the folder all users probably. Then in your hidden files you
will see a folder called default users. Tell me what users do you see on your
system? Also when you go into safe mode what users do you see? You don't have
to tell me what you call yourself but explain that if you will. Somehow, it
seems that it may be user related in some way.

Sorry been away for quite awhile. Did you get anywhere from before? Hope you
are around to answer this? We have to continue if you are still available.
