Mr Ranger

Hi,
New hard drive. Copied complete partions C: and D: to new drive from old.
Everything seems to be working except System Restore. First SR would not
launch because of .dll error. Reinstalled System Restore, now starts and
seems to be working fine until restoring to previous point. Looks like it
is working but at end of cycle says "can not restore". On disk C: I can
open System Volume Information Folder and it contains restore file. On
disk D: can not open (access denied) and the folder shows empty. I have
tried to clear folders by shuting down SR and restarting but to no avail.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mr Ranger

Hi,
The command-line parameter is case sensitive: Try this:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD
2. Click [Start] [Run]
3. Type the following command and press Enter
"rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf"
[Case Sensitive]

System Restore core files should be reinstalled.

Alternately, you may also open Windows Explorer, navigate to
"C:\Windows\Inf" folder and right-click sr.inf (choose Install) (sr.inf
shows up as sr in windows explorer)

Thanks, S.Sengupta. I had alredy tried that. However I retried as you
suggested and this time Restore worked. What I wonder though is, will my
Info of Disk D: be restored? I still can not open the System Volume Info
folder on that disk and it shows as being empty. This can't be right, Is
it?

Thanks,
Mr Ranger
