System restore and accessories corrupt and/or missing

Hello. My system restore is missing or corrupt. It won't let me access it,
or its tab on the system properties page. There is no sr.sys or sr[anything]
in the event viewer. I tried to remove accessories (via add/remove windows
components), and did so successfully. But when I tried to reinstall them via
the same route, it kept telling me it couldn't find every single file it
needed (even though I was pointing to them directly).

I really don't want to reformat and reload, as I just did this a couple of
months ago. Can someone save me all of the torture and solve these problems
for me? Thank you so much.

Hi Mark,

To open System Restore go to Start - Run and paste the following command
then press enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Does System Restore open? If not what is the exact error message?

Hello Bert and thanks for responding.

I got the error reporting dialogue box.

The Error signature was as follows:

AppName: rstrui.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00009826

The technical notes weren't able to be copied, but I am beta testing office
and can use OneNote to get screen clippings and paste them into a Word
document for you to see.

Here are the entries in Windows Error Reporting via msinfo.

11/25/2005 11:16 PM Application Error Faulting application rstrui.exe,
version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module srrstr.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180,

version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module srrstr.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180,

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi,

Reinstalling System Restore should fix this. The only down side is all
existing restore points will be lost.

How to reinstall System Restore.
