system recovery

What happened to my files (i.e. picture and music folders) that I had saved
prior to doing a system recovery. The programs I had installed I have not
had troubles finding. I went to the search folder, but it denies access to
open the folders. What can I do??

What do you mean, precisely, by "System Recovery"? Do you mean you used a
Recovery CD supplied by your computer vendor, or did you do a System Restore
in XP, or did you do a Repair Install, or what?

That's all very well, but it all depends on what sort of "system recovery"
the OP did. If the OP used a recovery CD supplied by the vendor, then it's
99.9999% probable that all the data is gone.
