System Recovery Error & New Hardware

I recently installed the software for an old scanner that
a friend gave me. Since then every time I start Windows
the New Hardware Wizard opens, prompting me to find the
correct driver. The scanner's manufacturer tells me I
need to purchase a CD in order to get that driver.

Today at startup I received the following message: "The
system has recovered from a serious error."

This was the "technical information contained in the
error report:"
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini112203-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

Does this mean my computer will be in trouble if I don't
purchase that new driver?

This is more of an annoyance, but if you want to avoid the New Hardware
wizard from popping up, you will need to purchase the updated driver or
remove the scanner.

Best regards,

Tom Montefusco
