What are the step by steps to REPAIR Microsoft Windows XP Professional
using the System Recovery CD ?
I have read in different books that you must click F10 ( some say F12 )
first before you click the R key.
I used the CD and it whipped everything off my PC as if I just took it out
of the box,
I lose everything. I had to put everything back on , printer, Internet
connection , Icon's , I just wanted to REPAIR the PC

Recovery CDs do not allow you to boot off of it and access the Recovery
Console. It just places back an image of the hard drive at the time it
shipped from the factory. You have experience the major problem with these
Recovery CDs

What is a "System Recovery CD"? If yours is an OEM computer built by one of
the the major OEM s like Dell, Gateway, HP, etc., the CD you probably got
with it is their own product and not a standard Windows CD. You can't find
out how to use it from a Windows book, because they are different depending
on who your vendor is.

That certainly sound like an OEM Recovery CD. That's exactly what its
purpose is and the only thing it does.

Sorry to be blunt, but sticking a CD in the drive and clicking on things
without knowing what you are doing is likely to get you into trouble every
time. The time to ask questions is *before* you do something you don't know
how to do.These CDs don't normally come with any repair functions.

Generally speaking, factory OEM CDs for their partnered PCs don't offer
repairs, only bring the system back to its original state.

Using a retail version of XP, use of the repair console is not part of a
repair installation of XP.
