Hi all.

I've just installed the two latest recommended security
updates via windowsupdate. Since then I've had a problem
with the system process using between 70 & 99 percent cpu
power. så my perfomance monitor looks like a saw /\/\/\
etc.

I've tried uninstalling the fix'es, but the problem
remains. I have also tried scanning for viruses, but none
was found.

Any recommendations?

Kind regards

What are the services/applications which are taking up CPU? In Task
Manager, click on the CPU column to sort (ascending or decending). This
would be a clue to fault. May or may not be related to the updates.

I took thse updates with no apparent problem.

It is the System process. Not the System Idle Process.

does it occur in safe mode,
what is your av/firewall/utility software
and what type of internet connection dialup/cable/dsl

and do you have a network of computers?

and were you having problems before downloading the
updates?

Ok, i've solved the problem. It turned out to be the
SecuRemote VPN software from CheckPoint, that caused it.
Unfortunately I need this to be able to work from home. I
used the latest V4.5 Build of SecuRemote. I hope this
problem will be fixed soon.

Well done.

It occured to me to ask if you had VPN software running, but i figured
that was probably so unlikely I didn't mention it. I figured it would
show up on the process list in Task Manager, whatever it was.

I had same problem with VPN software (another vendor) which when the
laptop wasn't connected to the network it went beserk looking for the
network. While machine was sort of usable, it was sluggish and the
battery drained in about an hour. Was told by the corporate IT people
that it was a known bug, but since few people in the company used the
laptops while off the network they weren't prepared to fix it!! Besides
I was the only one who noticed the problem!!
