System/Performance Monitor does not work.
Just get the vertical red line on left side and it does
not advance to the right to show any usage. Any
suggestions please?

Do you see a list of counters below the graph area?
If not, right click in the graph area and add some counters.
The default counters are:
Memory - Pages/sec
Physical Disk (Total) - Average Disk Queue Length
Processor (Total) - % Processor time.

Try clicking the Freeze Display icon (White X inside a Red Circle)
located above the graph area. It should NOT be activated.

Maybe you've set the update interval to some excessive value?
Click the Properties icon (just left of the previously mentioned
Freeze Display Icon) and check the update interval on the
General tab. The default value is 1 sec.

If none of that helps, post back.

All counters are defualt. Freeze display is NOT activated.
Update interval is default 1 second. Any other ideas?
Thanks

If you have access to another Win XP machine (Home/Pro doesn't matter),
copy perfmon.msc from out of window's system32 folder
(typically c:\windows\system32\perfmon.msc).

If you don't have access to a machine, I can email you a copy.

Well I copied over the .msc file, rebooted & still
nothing, so I copied over the .exe file, rebooted & still
nothing. Anything else to try?

I'm sure there is but, I don't know what would be best.
If no one comes along with a suggestion, you might consider
system restore.

Bob

I have the exact same problem, thought I would check to see if anyone has come across a solution since these posts were made

I have tried all of the tips mentioned in this thread and the problem still persists.
Nobody replied since April, I guess all the avenues have been explored and I'll just have to forget there is a performance tool in xp. Thanks.
