system not responding when i cut large sections of text in word

the title pretty much sums it up. recently my curser arrow
turns into a large hourglass and stays that way when i
attempt to cut more than a paragraph of text in word.

i have so far: dafragmented my hard drive, scanned for
viruses, reinstalled microsoft office xp 2002

nothing is working. please, can anyone help me i am trying
to finish my thesis!

What changed between the time things worked and the time things didn't?
Did you install new software or hardware? Since you don't give system
specs, it is hard to give you a precise answer, but start by a)
removing spyware with tools such as Spybot S&D and/or Ad-aware; b)
check to see what else is running when you have Word open; c) you may
be having a memory problem and the RAM should be tested; d) post your
question in an MS Office newsgroup where someone may have seen the
problem before.
