System logging off when idle

Hi,
I work at an office where the computer logs me off if I am idle for 15 mintues or more. I find this inconvenient and I would like to change it but I do not know how. The administrators have set it so I can't change anything in the control panel except screen resolution, and I can't load any programs on to the computer. Is there any kind of neat trick that would allow me to keep the system from going idle without having to move the mouse every 14 minutes (that doesnt involve control panel settings or loading programs on the computer). Thanks!

(if you can) right click on the desktop, screensaver and
next to wait (to the left )there is a check box wich
says :" []on resume, display welcome screen" un check
this box or set the delay for 999 minuets

The Administrators have done this for a security reason. It is probably a
network policy and company policy. Any changes that you may try to do on
the computer could result in disciplinary actions by your company. The
system administrators have given you rights to do your job and noting more.
This helps them from cleaning up problems that users like yourself create by
doing a "neat trick" to help themselves, but end up causing system and/or
network problems.

Unfortunately I'm not given access permissions to the screen saver settings. Literally the only settings I can change are montior resolution, color settings, and advanced monitor settings (all of which wouldn't help me). Are there any other possibilites?

I know the administrators have done this for a reason. This is pretty obvious. However, I don't see how keeping a computer from going idle would pose "system and/or network problems" seeing as how it's the equivalent of moving my mouse every 10 minutes. All I want to know is if it's possible. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Not gonna happen. Your admins have enabled the option to "prompt for
password" for when you resume from the screensaver, or from standby.
Unless you have access to this function, there is no way to turn it off.

What you need is something to make your computer think your mouse is
moving (or a key is being struck). One way would be to place your mouse
on an inclined plane, so that it would slowly slide down the slope over
a period of a few minutes. Another would be to tie a string to the
mouse cable, and attach the other end to something that moves
periodically. This would jerk on the string, causing the mouse to move.

Or you could have one of those "drinking" birds, that would tip over
more and more until it pecks one of your keyboard keys.

Or you could just learn to live with the inconvienience of having to
re-enter your password when you come back from lunch.

Just ask your admin to change it for you. If they will not then you have to
live with it. It poses no security threat, so I'm sure they'll change it for
you.

You have answered your own question. If you are on a domain and the
sysadmin has configured your workstation to log you off after a certain
amount of time, there is nothing you can do to change this. If this
setup doesn't work for you, contact your IT dept. and ask them to
extend the idle time before you get logged off.

Greetings --

Tell your supervisor that you find it inconvenient to obey company
computer security policies and that you wish to be exempted. As an
alternative to having the screen saver activate, you might try
actually using the computer to do your job, rather than letting it sit
idle.

This is a security issue as they do not want you having walked away from
your workstation with you logged in. Then anyone walking by has access, but
the admin will think it was YOU since it was done with your login. Follow
Bruce Chambers advice in another part of this thread!!!
