I have an xp home ed system that locks during the loading
of windows (starts scrolling green indicator and stops) I
tried to reinstall without uninstalling in safe mode...xp
needs to reboot during the load process and locks on
reboot. Now can not find a way to uninstall windows and
reinstall. MS help says to go to control panel,
add/remove programs and click on windows xp to
uninstall...it is not there. Any other way to uninstall
or any ideas?

thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve

Can you get to the 'Last Known Good Configuration' screen by continuously
tapping F8 after a reboot? If so, try that option. Failing that try the
same screen, but this time enter Safe Mode to see if you can perform a
System Restore.

Failing those you may have to look toward a 'Repair' install of XP:

Thanks for the quick reply Will,
I did try a system restore and also did a recovery from a
disk set that I generated from NTI software...locks at the
same point. Event log indicates a EventSystem error.
Ready to FDISK and start over soon but would prefer to
avoid that !

Hi

I don't know the NTI software and how it performs a recovery. Depending on
what kind of XP CD you have, try the following article:

Thanks for the tip...I ran the repair and it did
acknowledge the install was damaged and went through an
eval and install...but still locks in the same area. I
think I am done for tonight !!

Hi

Try physically disconnecting all your hardware apart from the mouse,
keyboard and monitor. Then try the 'Repair' install again.
