My Sony Viao does the following:
[My operating sytem is Windows XP Home Edition]

After I enter my user code password, within one minute I
get a message "REMOTE PROCEDURE CALL (RPC) SERVICE
TERMINATED UNEXPECTEDLY" "GENERAL HOST PROCESS FOR WIN 32
SERVICES HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM".
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

The computer then counts down one minute and restarts and
does the same thing over again.

I used the system recovery CD'S to no avail.

Please help

Hi Keith,

To stop the reboots: Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down
to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)/Recovery/First Failure/Restart the Service.

Run the script on line 257:

More information here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm#rpc

The script also includes all variants, the original, b and c and the prompt
to install the MS patch.

Hi Keith,

If it's a recent problem then it may be the MS blast worm. There's an
explanation and a patch on the Microsoft site. I'm sorry I don't have
a link here but it should be easy to find there.

If you've not already got them then you'll need an anti-virus program
and a firewall. I use NOD32 (anti-virus) and Zone Alarm Pro
(firewall), and they're both pretty good.

Best,

You have the Blaster worm!!

First, stop the bug from running by hitting CTRL-ALT-DELETE and
bringing up the task manager. Look for msblast.exe in the list, and
kill it. Now your computer won't shut down, but the bug is still there
and will run the next time you start your machine. Go to this URL to
find out how to get rid of it:
