Greetings all. My system keeps crashing. I'll be downloading something, or
watching a video on WMP, or just reading mail, when everything freezes.
Mouse won't move, can't even Ctrl-Alt-Del. I have to completely reboot.
I have a year and a half old Compaq SR1550NX. I have over a GB of RAM, and a
new ATI 9660 graphics card with 250MB of RAM. My Norton is up to date, and I
can find no Spyware.
Where should I start to look for the problem?
Thanks.

The most common cause seems to be overheating and memory problems.
Check to see that all the internal fans are working correctly and not clogged or obstructed.
Reseat the memory, or try 1 stick at a time.
Leave the case cover off to see if it runs cooler and stops freezing.

Try lowering the "Hardware Accelerator" setting a notch or three.
Right-click the desktop, select Properties. Click the "Settings" tab.
Click the "Advanced" button, click the "Troubleshoot" tab.

1st step is to remove Nortons.
