I cannot get system information to run in windows XP
home. Is there any way to re-install it without re-
installing all of windows?

Tony:

systeminfo.exe is not included with Home.

You can copy the utility from an XP Pro computer and it will work in Home.

That program is a 'DOS' command, to be run from cmd.exe. ANd is
consequently clumsy.

What is usually meant by 'System Information' is MSInfo32 - a Windows
program, which *is* included in Home, and is to be found at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\msinfo32.exe

with an entry in All Programs - Accessories - System tools.

If it is not around, or is not working, it will be on the XP CD - use
MSConfig.exe, Expand Files button to expand it from the CD file
i386\msinfo32.ex_ to the msinfo32.exe in that location

It also wants support files in the same folder - IEFILES5.INF and
IEInfo5.ocx

Good point and good info.
I usually associate the phrase MSInfo32 for the GUI utility, and the phrase
system info with the DOS utility

It is hard for me to believe you would call any DOS utility as clumsy, in
consideration of your systems level experience.
Possibly, you meant lacking, which it is compared to the GUI utility which
provides much more info. However, it is noteworthy that the DOS utility
provides the PID and a listing of the applied patches that the GUI utility
does not provide.
