System has started rebooting in the middle of everything

My system just started doing reboots right in the middle of running
programs. It is random as to when and as to which applications are
running at the time so there have been no "indicators" leading me to
what is causing this.

The XP error generated is:

Error Signature:
BCCode : 100000d1 BCP1 : B95E221C BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 :
00000000
BCP4 : F7B313B8 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

The following Files will be included in this error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERcfa3.dir00\Mini091305-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERcfa3.dir00\sysdata.xml

This machine is running XP Home SP2 with all MS Updates current.
AdAware and SpyBot S&D and NAV2005 are all up to date and show no
boogers in the system. No new applications/programs have been
installed since this started. The one bit of damage that takes place
when this happens is that my ZoneAlarm Pro looses every bit of its
configuration and has to be totally reconfigured as if it was a new
install each time this happens and no, I am only running one firewall
at a time (XP's firewall is disabled).

Any ideas would be appreciated......

Regards,
Ed

Check all your system fans:

PSU
Both working
Video working

working

Case
All 4 working

One note that I forgot to mention.... It doesn't do this reboot thing
unless I click on something to do such as open folder, open a program,
click on a link while in IE, click to download a file.... click on
anything but never the same thing every time it does this reboot
thing. If I don't do anything, it will sit there and run all day long
without rebooting.

Thanks for the feedback though........

Regards,
Ed

Oh, OK. That would make a difference in
my suggestion...

Do you let Windows Update have its way
with your computer? Uninstall any recent
updates one at a time and check at each step.

Hi Ed,

0x100000d1 is usually a device driver problem. Is a file name mentioned? If
not, send the most recent minidump file to me at (e-mail address removed) and I'll take
a look at it to see if I can identify the problem. Use the subject line 'per
req' to get past the filters.

I'm set to automatically notify but not to download and install. I
usually check them out and wait a few days for problem topics to show
up on the forums before installing.

The last set of updates I installed were the collection that came out
on 08-09-2005 which was way before this problem I am now having
started so I don't "think" they have anything to do with it.....

Thanks for the suggestion though........

Hi Ed,

Yes, I have received it. I have been away on family matters and will look at
it today.

As suggested, I ran the verification utility. It really slowed the
system down to an agonizing speed but I kept with it until the error
causing the reboot happened during its running. There was no
information that I could see from its listings that would lead me to
the actual device driver causing this problem.

I did turn off XP's option to reboot on error so the blue screen of
death would appear and hopefully tell me more. The BSofD tells me
that it is a "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" Fault.

Does this give any better indications on where to look for this
mystery driver causing all this? You know, if windows knows enough to
tell me that a device driver is causing the problem then why can't it
just tell me which one?

Ed

There are a lot of possibilities.
Last time that happened to me (on a previously working machine), it turned
out to be bad RAM.
In my case, it was the RAM built into the CPU, but that is uncommon.
Generally it is your DIMMS that fail or malfunction, sometimes because of
excessive heat. In my experience, it happens a lot more with DDR than with
the older SDRAM.

I have one stick of 512MB DDR SDRAM 2.0-2-2-6CL 2CMD

I have tested it with MEMTest86+ v1.60 and it passed. I then swapped
it out with another stick of the same and still had the error.
because of excessive heat

I don't have a heat problem anywhere. The box has fans out the rear
end plus various system component's temperature is monitored with a
utility that came with the ABIT MB driver CD that would set off alarms
if certain temp maximums are reached on various MB components.

Thanks for the input though.... much appreciated.....

Ed-
I am having the same problem and I'm at a loss as to how to fix it. Did you
ever figure anything out beyond this thread?

Thanks,
Nicole

I am also having this problem... I REALLY need help with this. I'm a student
and I'm trying everything to avoid taking my computer somewhere because I
need it for school.

The description in the earlier post doesn't help much as there isn't much
detail making it difficult for people to offer help.
And it *is* someone else's problem- you want help with your problem not
theirs I'd guess so you really should fully describe *your* problem if
that's the one you want sorted.

As it stands from the earlier description(?) the problem could be anything
from heat (take the computer covers off to aid heat flow to see if it
stops/delays the issue. Also it could be a virus or other malware (have you
programs you have ran to check? what are they? are they updated?), or a
Windows problem.

It's like saying my car doesn't work with no other details- it could be an
engine breakdown, flat tyres, no petrol, lost the key, etc........... It
makes it *very* difficult for anyone to help.

same problem here, too
