System hangs up

We have installed 5 new systems, they have all been added to the network. We
have one computer that after sitting for as little as an hour it will hang
up. Only hangs on network connection (ie: network drives, email, IE) We
replaced this machine with another new one thinking that the machine was the
problem. The new machine is doing the same thing. We have replaced all
cables. The computer is running XP Pro and the server is running 2000. No One
else is having this problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this one
user is having problems? And what would be the solution?

Are you using a 5 port switch or hub to connect all these together? If so is
the user in question being plugged into the uplink port? On many small hubs
and switches if you are using the uplink say for internet service, the
hub/switch will require that you often not use the port directly next to it
as they only provide 5 functional ports even if you have a 6th port for
uplink. In some, especially older models, That 5th port becomes useless when
the uplink is in use. If this isn't your problem you might also just have a
bad port on your hub/switch. It is not uncommon for a single port to go bad.
Try plugging the cable connected to the problem system to one of the other
ports on the hub/switch that you know is working fine to be sure.

Thank you. I just unplugged the cable in the switch and plugged it into
another port. The computer had been sitting for a couple hours and when
connecting to a network drive it did not hang. Hopefully this was the
problem.
